Born one day from a realisation that my parents aren’t capable of holding onto that one link to Rotten Tomatoes’ Top 100 movies, The Rate Crate is a website committed to giving you the best of whatever you’re in the mood for.

Targeted squarely at all boomer parents, The Rate Crate is a curated, filterable view of Rotten Tomatoes' annual highest-rated films, sorted by year, mood, region and more. Special features and a “I don’t wanna think about it” modal all take the sting out of choosing what to watch.

The visual inspiration was a blend of vintage 60s and 70s design, clean poster forward title navigation with a language ideated in Midjourney and NanoBanana Pro, then brought into Photoshop to build a full design system and landing mocks, then coded in Manus.

Art is deeply subjective and the Tomato meter never a guarantee, but I’d like to hope it’s just nice not to have to think about it. Really, at the heart of it lies a love of making sure my parents are never without. All the best, to you and yours.
